Program Purpose

We equip students with the ability to operate effectively as first responders. Students are introduced to the Surf Life Saving movement and its core values.

Our award winning program aligns with the North Cottesloe SLSC vision….

to be a community leader, that provides a diverse, positive and embracing environment.

Pathway

Year 10 students attain their Bronze Medallion which enables them to patrol as a volunteer Surf Life Saver.

Year 11 and 12 students are selected for the Cadet Leadership team and assist in delivering the program by providing mentoring, instruction and water safety. They also attain additional awards including:

This provides a structured pathway for future involvement within the surf lifesaving movement.

During the program’s operation, over a thousand cadets have accessed the mental health benefits, the pursuit of excellence and understood the importance of belonging to a respected community organisation such as Surf Life Saving
— Allison Gould (Teacher in Charge)
You can’t go to the beach on a Friday afternoon with any other boys’ school in Perth. Only Christ Church offers a unique opportunity to experience the beach in a whole new way, saving lives.
— Luke (Year 10)
My time as a surf cadet was an entertaining experience. Many skills were developed and good memories made. After the admittedly very difficult first ‘fitness’ session of the year, the course was a lot of fun and passing my bronze medallion assessment at the end was by far the most rewarding thing I’ve done in a long time.
— Shane (Year 10)

The program runs every Friday afternoon from the commencement of the school term and continues until the start of Term 4. The students complete their assessment over a weekend in September.
